SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY IN SWITZERLAND FOR VIETNAMESE STUDENTS
Switzerland boasts a high-quality education system and is a popular destination for international students. However, scholarship opportunities for international students in Switzerland differ from those in many other countries. Major Swiss government scholarships are mainly for doctoral and postgraduate candidates, while undergraduate and master’s scholarships are usually offered by individual universities or faculties.
Below are some notable scholarship programs for international students and Vietnamese applicants.

SWISS GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP
- Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships — A scholarship program from the Swiss Government for international researchers and certain arts candidates. For Vietnam, the 2027–2028 academic year currently offers Research Fellowship and PhD Scholarships for eligible applicants. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent and find a professor in Switzerland willing to supervise their research. The scholarship provides 2,450 CHF/month along with several additional benefits. The application deadline for Vietnamese applicants is November 24, 2026 .
SCHOLARSHIPS FROM UNIVERSITIES
- ETH Zurich — Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Program (ESOP) is for high-achieving applicants applying for Master’s programs at ETH Zurich. The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses , with a support of CHF 13,500 per semester starting from the 2027/28 academic year , and tuition fees are waived. Approximately 60 scholarships are expected to be awarded for the 2027/28 academic year. ESOP applications must be submitted along with the Master’s program application between November 1st and 30th, 2026 .
- The University of Geneva — Faculty of Science offers Excellence Master Fellowships to international students with outstanding academic achievements who wish to pursue Master of Science programs within the faculty. The scholarship is worth 10,000–15,000 CHF per year and may be renewed for the standard duration of the program if the student meets the academic requirements. The program requires outstanding academic achievement and a separate application.
- EPFL offers a variety of financial aid programs, including scholarships and funds for students currently enrolled at the college. Some programs for international students require students to have completed at least one year of study at EPFL, so not all aid is available to new students from Vietnam.
- University of Zurich (UZH) — UZH offers financial aid programs for enrolled students. However, international students starting a Bachelor’s program are often unable to apply for university financial aid right from the start; for international students, some forms of aid may only be considered after the completion of the first year.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR VIETNAMESE STUDENTS
For Vietnamese students, one of the outstanding scholarship opportunities currently available is the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship , especially for research-oriented applicants, PhD candidates, and Research Fellowship programs. For Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, scholarship opportunities will vary depending on the university and faculty. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP?
Not receiving a scholarship doesn’t mean you can’t study in Switzerland. When choosing a school, students should compare the total cost of studying abroad , including tuition fees, accommodation, insurance, food, transportation, and other living expenses.
In particular, tuition fees in Switzerland can vary significantly between schools, programs, and student groups. Therefore, choosing a school and city that fits your budget is an important part of your study abroad plan.
WHAT DOES A SWISS SCHOLARSHIP GARMENT INCLUDE?
Depending on the program, scholarships may cover part or all of the tuition fees, living expenses, or other support costs.
For example, the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship currently provides 2,450 CHF/month for Research Fellowship and PhD programs, along with additional benefits such as mandatory health insurance, housing deposit allowance, and return airfare support for certain non-EU/EFTA applicants.
University scholarships may have different conditions and levels of support, so students should carefully check each program before applying.
